Look Ahead and North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) are proud to announce that Well House (Redbridge Crisis House) has been shortlisted for a Housing Heroes Award, recognising its pioneering community-based approach to crisis mental health support.
Well House has been named a finalist in the Best company health and wellbeing initiative category, which recognises individuals, teams, and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to the health and wellbeing of residents.
Based at a Look Ahead property in the London Borough of Redbridge, Well House has been an important step in Look Ahead and NELFT’s partnership, bringing high-quality mental health care away from hospital and into the community.
The service has been recognised for the way it combines clinical and social care, support and housing, offering a 24-hour service for up to seven people experiencing or recovering from a mental health crisis in a homely setting. This approach benefits both individuals and the NHS by enabling people to avoid extended hospital stays and in some cases admission altogether.
Service Manager Kolil Miah said: It’s fantastic to have our hard work and positive community impact recognised by the Housing Heroes Awards in this way. I am hopeful that services like Well House can lead the way in improving mental health care and support nationwide and this is a great milestone on that journey.
Deputy Chief Operating Officer at NELFT, Carol White said: In 2025 we began a really exciting partnership with Look Ahead and patients with lived experience of recent crisis, to codesign a new service that would offer a real alternative to hospital when someone experiences a mental health crisis. We created Well House together based on the principals of coproduction from the beginning, lived experience roles being key members of the team and central to the model. We are so pleased that it has been so well utilised and offers hope to those that get to use it.
A customer said: The staff and management are really nice people and make you comfortable and do what they can for you. I’m really grateful for staying here.
Run by Inside Housing, the Housing Heroes Awards celebrate the leaders, innovators and changemakers across the housing sector. Winners are announced at a national ceremony later in the year.
