Look Ahead dancers rock All Points East festival

Dancers from Look Ahead’s Look Ahead’s learning disability and mental health services made a fantastic impact by performing at this year’s All Points East festival in Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets.

Around 60 customers from 11 of our services took to their own allocated performance tent and strutted their stuff during live dance shows and free workshops open for festival goers to join, including local residents and families.

The group are active participants in Look Ahead’s inclusive dance movement psychotherapy project AnyBODY Can Dance, which involves weekly dance activities in our services, as well as regular group workshops and showcases.

The performers’ attendance at All Points East was arranged by the founder of AnyBODY Can Dance, Georgina Caird, who contacted the festival after participants expressed an interest in having more opportunities to perform live, build confidence and engage with new people.

The event clearly boosted our customers’ confidence and was well received by the audience.

One customer said: “All these people were cheering for us. I think we should have a big stage next time, they loved us.”

While another said: “When I dance, I can be me. I feel like me and no one can make me feel bad. I feel strong when I dance.”
