Voter ID and registration

Elections are an important opportunity for you to make your voice heard, and to let the government know what you expect from them in the future.

If you are a Look Ahead customer, and you want to vote, or want to know more about voting, you can speak to your support worker, or read through the information below:

Registration and voter ID rules

You need to register to vote to take part in the elections. You can do this on the Electoral Commission Website.

New rules mean that voters must show photo ID at the polling station to be allowed to vote.

There are different types of photo ID that you can show such as:

  • a UK Driving Licence.
  • a UK Passport.
  • an Older Person’s or Disabled Person’s Bus Pass (that is funded by the UK Government).
  • If you do not have a photo ID, you can get a free Voter Authority Certificate to use as ID when you vote.

You can find more information about voter ID, applying for a Voter Authority Certificate, and a full list of all accepted types of photo ID on the Electoral Commission Website.
