Aids and adaptations

Learn how we can support you with aids and adaptations to your home.

Before you move in, we work closely with you and the people who support your referral to understand what you need to live comfortably and safely. This might include things like adaptations, equipment, or small changes to the property.

We use the information shared through commissioning teams, referral partners, and the landlords we work with to make sure your home is set up in a way that suits you. Everyone’s situation is different, and we do our best to make sure your home reflects your individual needs.

We recognise that your needs can change over time and that additional aids or adaptations may be necessary to support you to continue living comfortably and independently in your home.

If you feel that aids or adaptations may support you, you can contact Look Ahead to discuss your needs and the options available.

Supported services

If you live in one of our supported services, please speak with your support worker or service manager about what support or adaptations you feel you need.

If aids or adaptations are already in place, we may review these during routine room checks or Living Standards Checks to make sure they are stay suitable and safe.

Unsupported services

If you live in one of our unsupported services, please contact us on GetinTouch@lookahead.org.uk

Someone from our team will talk with you about your request, pass it to the right person, and make sure you know what’s happening next.

What Look Ahead can help with

Minor aids and adaptations
Some minor adaptations such as handrails, raised furniture, or adapted door handles, may be considered and arranged by Look Ahead after an assessment of need and in keeping with property and landlord requirements.

Major adaptations
If you need more significant adaptations, such as wet rooms, you will usually need an assessment from a local council occupational therapist.

The local council will then make a decision on approval and funding. You can find out more information on the government website.

Our staff will support you through this process and help coordinate the next steps after the request has been approved and funding is in place.

When adaptations require assessments, approval and/or funding from outside Look Ahead, these may take longer than our usual repair response times.
