“I wouldn’t even know where to begin if asked to describe how much I have learnt and experienced”

I first started with Look Ahead as a Support Worker in a service for over 100 young people; it was an exciting and challenging place to work and made me fall in love with the sector. After a short break (where I spent a year volunteering in India) I returned to Look Ahead in 2015 as a Personal Support Assistant (PSA) whilst I completed a Masters in Counselling. During this time I mostly worked at a women’s hostel in East London and working there taught me a lot about the diverse issues that vulnerable women can face.

In 2016, I applied for an internal transfer and moved to a Floating Support service for young people in South London, and last summer I was promoted to Team Leader at the same scheme. The service provides floating support to up to 120 young people living in Southwark, who are at risk including care leavers and also young parents. As a Team Leader, I ensure I have regular contact with customers and try to get them involved as much as possible. To see growth in either a customer or a member of staff is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about this job. I am very proud of my service.

I have always loved challenges and having worked in three large services, I wouldn’t even know where to begin if asked to describe how much I have learnt and experienced. Earlier this year I was nominated for the Team Leader of the year award as part of our 2017 Staff Conference, it was such a proud moment for me and I was honoured to be awarded, runner-up. To be recognised by my manager and team for my hard work and enthusiasm meant so much.

I thoroughly enjoy being a Team Leader and I now feel I am ready for the next step. I have been very fortunate enough to work with exceptional managers who not only support me but see potential and push me to take new opportunities and responsibilities. They have all provided me with platforms to extend my strengths and I have every faith that I can continue progression with their support. It’s exciting to think where my career with Look Ahead can take me
