Look Ahead apprentices make the headlines
Look Ahead Housing and Care's first ever batch of health and social care apprentices made the news recently, when they featured in Inside Housing.
Launched in September 2009, Look Ahead has been nurturing the talents of nine apprentices who are each participating in the 12-month scheme.
Each apprentice gain hands on experience working at a Look Ahead accommodation-based service and one day studying for a NVQ in health and social care.
Nashir Miah, who works at Look Ahead’s Gateway Foyer, a hostel for young people, said: “This job makes me feel good. It gives me the drive I need to get up in the morning and get to work.”
In addition, Nashir recently attended a Department of Health ministerial reception, which took place during National Apprenticeship week.
Care Services Minister, Phil Hope and the Secretary of State for Health, Andy Burnham, joined apprentices from selected social care organisations across the country to celebrate the role of apprenticeships in the health and social care field.
