Young people work with international artists as part of Look Ahead’s Trail Blazing public art programme

Artworks unveiled in local galleries

Young people from two Look Ahead Housing and Care supported housing projects have recently unveiled their works of art in local galleries.

Working with international artists to create artworks using video, text and projection, the initiative, part of Look Ahead’s ‘Trail Blazing’ public art programme, aims to inspire Look Ahead customers, who are among society’s most socially excluded, to express themselves through art.

International artists brook & black worked with young people from Look Ahead‘s Frogmore Court in Maidenhead. Residents decided to create two art works using the written and spoken word, which will be exhibited at The Lightbox gallery and museum in Woking until 21 February 2010.

At Look Ahead’s Rainforest Walk in Bracknell, young people worked with international artists Beverley Carpenter and Patricia Mackinnon-Day.

The result is a poetic and colourful film offering a fascinating glimpse of young British life, which is being shown in the Atrium Projection Space at South Hill Park in Bracknell until 24 January 2010.

The Look Ahead arts programme was launched over 15 years ago and has proved a success on many levels.

Victoria Stark, Chief Executive at Look Ahead, said: “Our arts programme provides opportunities for our customers to enjoy new experiences, and to explore and expand their creative capacity. Time and again we have seen the value of art as an important tool for communication and expression when working with vulnerable people.”
